As the crypto landscape continues to evolve, Bitcoin’s function is expanding far beyond its roots as a simple store of value.

We’re thrilled to announce that SatLayer has been selected as the designated restaking partner of Babylon. Alongside this partnership, we’re launching the SatLayer devnet, providing developers early access to a shared security platform built on Babylon that enables Bitcoin to be used for restaking.

SatLayer is helping to extend Bitcoin’s utility by allowing developers to build secure, decentralized applications using a model called Bitcoin Validated Services (BVS). Our goal with SatLayer is to offer a unique platform for leveraging Bitcoin’s decentralized security model to create a diverse range of applications.

Meet Babylon's premier restaking partner

As part of this alliance, SatLayer will be Babylon's premier restaking provider, implementing a sophisticated suite of smart contracts on Babylon Chain with minimal trust assumptions. These smart contracts enable fully programmable BTC slashing, marking a significant advancement in Bitcoin's utility within decentralized finance.

SatLayer enables the Bitcoin staked through Babylon to secure everything: Not only Proof-of-Stake (PoS) chains, but the full stack of omnichain apps and infrastructure. Through combining Babylon’s Bitcoin staking protocol with SatLayer’s restaking solution, BTC utility will be significantly extended. As TVL and adoption grows, Bitcoin’s staking and restaking ecosystem will expand to rival and ultimately surpass Ethereum’s.

Through this alliance, Babylon will extend over $2 billion worth of Bitcoin shared security to PoS blockchains. The liquidity of those coins will be unlocked through established Liquid Staking Token (LST) projects including Lombard, Solv, and Bedrock. SatLayer will amplify these benefits by extending both security and liquidity features to applications and infrastructure built within these ecosystems.

Apps are the future: SatLayer & Babylon at the forefront of Bitcoin’s growing ecosystem

Think of SatLayer as a marketplace where developers, Bitcoin restakers, and operators come together to establish and grow Bitcoin Validated Services, extending the Bitcoin ecosystem.

In SatLayer, tokenized Bitcoin is restaked and programmatically slashable through a set of smart contracts deployed on Babylon’s own CosmWasm chain. Together, the Babylon Chain secures clients’ Proof of Stake chains against forking, and Bitcoin Validated Services (BVS) built on SatLayer expands Babylon’s offering into a comprehensive suite of services for client chains to integrate to solve their cold start problem.

Where next

Our focus right now is on running a successful devnet with builders and developers within the Babylon and Bitcoin ecosystem. The process will be iterative and hands-on, where we will be working closely with BVS developers to grow SatLayer and Babylon’s ecosystem.
